Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

I was pulled over and did not have a current insurnace card, even though the insurance was current. It had just renewed in June and this was July and I forgot to put the new card in. Also found out my license had been suspended due to two unpaid toll violations but I did not know this. I got a driving with suspended license first offense hearing and need to know if I should have a lawyer. Friends have told me I could go to jail but I really didnt know since I had moved and have been having mail forwarding problems and the change of address request didnt go through yet since I just asked for it at the end of June. What should I do - go myself or get a lawyer - what will happen at the arraignment?

On suspended license charges, a lot of times officers will write up the criminal ticket thinking that the driver will just think that it's "just a ticket." In reality you can go to jail. Often worse is the long term effect in that a couple tickets like this and you lose your license for five years. The reason I tell you just some of the consequences is that you must get a lawyer. Even if you can't afford one, get a public defender. You have a defense but just telling the judge you didn't know is not going to get this dismissed. Having a lawyer to fight for you will help you get this dismissed. Do it now before arraignment.
