Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

I was recently involved in an auto accident in a parking lot. The spaces were angled so the lot was only a one way road. I checked my driver side mirror and my rear view mirror but did not look at the other side since I figured another car wouldn't be coming. The car in the spot opposite to me was backing out at the same time and we ended up meeting in the middle. We both hit bumpers and at the time I figured that it was my fault since I didn't see the other car, but I was told later that since we were both backing out that the fault is split. I never heard a horn from the other driver or had any other indication that the driver saw me coming from the other side. We both decided to deal with this out of pocket rather than involve the police or insurance companies. I was wondering how the fault is usually split in these sorts of cases since I am now being expected to pay close to $600 for two inch crack in their bumper. Thank you.

If you were equally at fault, then you would be responsible for paying 50% of their damage and they would be responsible for paying 50% of your damage.
