Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

Hello, I was recently pulled over for an expired tag (42 days expired). There was no other reason for the traffic stop but I was on Private Property the entire time the police officer followed me. I was at a local mall, and I also live on property so I was driving from the parking lot of the mall to my residence the distance traveled doesn't even equal .5 miles. It's my understanding that a non-moving violation like this has to happen on a public road. I know I was in the wrong for having expired tags and I have fixed that situation but before I pay this infraction I'd like to get a better understanding of my rights. (The stop occurred in Orlando, FL if that helps.) Thank you so much!

I doubt there is a .5 mile stretch of pavement that is solely "private" so it is unlikely that you were on private property the whole time. Furthermore, the police are allowed to enforce criminal traffic offenses even on "private property," I would suggest you get an attorney to help you fight this so that they can determine in person whether or not there are any valid issues you can raise.
