This may be far more serious than you think. A public defender is only offered when the state is seeking to impose jail time if you are convicted. It is time to consult an attorney to review the facts of this case. If it can be proven that the dealer failed to properly register the car, your charges should be dropped but your time is very limited. Further, you may have grounds for a civil suit against the dealership for the problems which have been caused by their negligence.
