rights to search my purse
if you are stopped by law enforcement, do they have the right to search my purse?

Hello: I just read your question. Generally, upon a traffic stop, an officer does not have a right to search you or your belongings. However, if the officer sees something in plain view, he/she may have probable cause to conduct a search. If an officer does an improper search, and finds something illegal an arrest may be made. The defendant can file a motion to suppress the evidence (get the court to order the state cannot use it or anything resulting from the illegal search) and have a hearing. If Def. wins, the State most likely, will have to drop the case. 'Hope this helps. Tom Rosenblum
