Who do you call?

when an attorneys dies where does his files go? how does a person get his or her's files from the estate. doesn't the file belong to client when attorney dies?

The attorney's notes etc. do not belong to the client per se. If you gave the attorney documents that belonged to you, you are entitled to those back.

What actually happens to the files will depend on whether or not your attorney had planned for someone else to take over in case of emergency or whether you have to get the court involved to retrieve your documents. Try contacting the secretary if there was one, or anyone else who might have worked there to see whether there where plans to handle things. Best wishes.
