A Florida resident is not able to complete a change of name in one day. A petition with information relating to residence, birth, previous name changes, etc. is required and submitted to the local county court. Subsequently, if your new change differs from the name on vehicle registrations and other legal documents, you must prove the legal change of name. A person has a right to change his/her name if there is no ulterior or illegal motive, but it may take a few weeks, depending on the local court docket.

Name changes take more than one day. I am doing one right now and it will be about 4 weeks between filing and getting a hearing. Of course it depends upon what county you will file in. Some are quicker than others.

Besides the petition, you will need to be fingerprinted. Filing Fee is just over $400.
