You do need to be appointed to act on behalf of your father or his Estate now that he is deceased. Mr. Slater would be a good attorney to consult with on this matter if you are close to him. You may also want to consider writing a letter to the landlord explaining the circumstances and how you need to get his papers etc. from the home AND I assume once the landlord does not get rent he will want his stuff out.
