Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Durable Power of Attorney Rights

As granddaughter, I was durable POA to my grandmother (now deceased), which was passed to me by my mother (deceased). My mother's sister has requested very detailed information on how my grandmother's money was spent. Is that any of her business?

Also, as dpoa, am I responsible for any of my grandmothers debts if she did not have enough funds to pay a final nursing home bill? I did sign for her when she went in.

Re: Durable Power of Attorney Rights

The DPOA has automatically terminated with your grandmother's passing. Any outstanding debts should be handled by the Personal Representative of her estate. Without details, it is difficult to assess whether you met your obligation. If you wasted funds and did not manage your grandmother's finances in accordance to the DPOA you may be liable. If you are concerned, I'd recommend making an appointment with an attorney in your area.
