estate check
My grandfather passed away in May and his will stated that his money be split between his three children. Then in November my mother passed away so the money is now to go to my sister and I. the executer of the will wrote the check to the estate of and my mothers maiden name. who can cash this check and how do I go about doing so?

Your mother's estate must be probated unless there was a direct provision for distribution to you and your sister.

Probate of your mother's estate will be required. The monies are part of her estate and will pass under her will, if any, otherwise to her spouse (if any) and children. If under $75,000 a simpler (and less expensive) Summary Probate may be available.
