Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

filing & location of a will

a woman from Pt.St.Lucie, Fl. died. Assuming she had a will, where would it be filed, and would the contents be avalable to the public? If she didn't have a will, what then? She was originally from Massachusetts. Could her will be filed there?

Re: filing & location of a will

A will is filed at the local county court where the person had her permanent residence. You can start an adminitration of the estate even without a will. In fact, it is often necessary. Contact the local St. Lucie county courthouse for help.

Once filed, a will does become accessible to the public.
