Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida
Florida/Rhode Island trust distribution
My folks lived in FL for almost 30 years. Mom died in FL; the oldest move Dad to RI, where he did shortly thereafter.
Both my parents passed in 2002; the oldest sibling has been handling the estate, (I am not sure he was appointed as legal representative.)
The oldest wants me to sign a release BEFORE he releases, what he says, are the last of the funds, coming to me. I feel I should NOT sign anything, especially BEFORE I receive the funds, and know for sure, there is nothing else due to me.
I live in Florida,he lives in Rhode Island. I believe, since my father passed in Rhode Island, I would need an attorney there. However, since the trust was written in Florida, I think I need an attorney in Florida as well.
I am very confused. Please help!!!
I have NO idea what to do, how to do it or where to turn. I would appreciate any advise/suggestions you have to offer.
Thank you.

Re: Florida/Rhode Island trust distribution
Since he died a domiciliary of RI his estate should be probated there. I assume there was a will. Either you or your attorney can check with the appropriate court. The fiduciary should account for all assets and the appropriate distribution before any release is signed.
