Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida
A good friend was caring for an elderly gentleman who had no family. She had POA for his financial and medical affairs. He then passed unexpectedly with no will, but had very few possessions. One was a used car, which I would like to buy. But unknown to us, her POA expired with his death. How do we proceed so that I might legally purchase the car? Thank you.

If there is no family, who will you be paying for the car? If the car has a debt on it, then contact the lender and let them know that you will be making the payments. Send them a copy of the death certificate.
You need to find some sort of family or creditor to probate the assets.
If the car has a loan on it, the creditor can do the probate, and you can purchase it through probate.
Go to MV Department. They may have a quick procedure for this type of issue without the necessity of probate.
