Can an irrevocable trust protect assets from creditors?

Possibility. The real issue is control and access. If you have access to your assets, they are almost always going to be reachable by creditors.

In order for the trust to the effective to shield you from creditors It must be funded with assets which will be titled into the irrevocable name. In addition, the trust should have an independent trustee who manages to the affairs of the trust. If you are contemplating setting up this type of arrangement I would advise you to contact myself or another attorney to review total estate plan.
