when does law require a probate
my mother died in 1999,she and my father own a home,outright,no liens.my father died in 2000,there are 4 adult children,3 of whom agreed to sell the house to me (the 4th).there was a contract drawn up and noterized with all four signing for the sale.Now does this property have to go through probate by law???????If so how long should it have taken to be filed and completed? thank you so very much,i really need an answer to this asap

Yes, a probate action for your father would be required. It should take a matter of days once the paperwork is drawn up and everyone has signed off. It should cost less than $1,000, including filing fees.

The property would have to go through your fathers estate. The paperwork should be specific as to how the property got into your father's sole name. At most of a couple of weeks for processing.
