Life Estate with step children

in the life estate there are 2 parsals of property, the homestead and a vacant lot. I would like to give up my rights to the vacant lot which includes paying the property taxes and maintaining the land. Both lots are on the same deed but have seperate property taxes. I am no longer able to maintain and pay taxes on the lot and would like to release it to the step children. Can I do this?

rights to a life estate can be waived at any time.

Just execute and record a quit-claim deed on that parcel to them.
