Life Insurance Disbursement

My spouse died and I received an life insurance disbursement made out to his daughter from a previous marriage. It is made out to: Jane Smith, c/o John Smith Estate. As his spouse can I use this to pay his debts?

it's true that technically life-insurance passes upon death to the beneficiary is stated in the beneficiary designation. However, in many circumstances these money should be looked at as part of the liquid proceeds which could be necessary to pay mortgages on properties, businesses, etc. If you would like to discuss this with me e-mail me your phone number and I will call you.
