Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Are limited partnerships public information?

When my grandfather died, my sister and I were allegedly added to a limited partnership to split my father's share (who died before my grandfather). This was a few years ago and I haven't seen any paperwork on my father's shares of the trust and I am concerned that when I turn of age to leave the partnership, I will be faced with enormous taxes. Direct questions to the attorney are eventually passed to the executor; and the executor will not tell me. Since the records are in Florida, is it public information?

Re: Are limited partnerships public information?

You can find basic information on Florida Limited Partnerships at www.sunbiz.org. If you know the name of the Limited Partnership, it will tell you who the general partner is and the address of the business. It will not tell you who the Limited Partners are.

If you are a minor then your legal guardian has the right to inquire as to your interest.

Probate Records are open to the public as are corporate filings and Limted Partnership registrations. But you are asking more substantively about Florida Law. If your grandfather's estate was set-up in Florida you should talk to a Florida Attorney. If however, the estate was established in Massachusetts but there is a Fla Limited Partnership, you should talk to a MA attorney at least initially.

If you are a beneficiary under a trust or even a contingent beneficiary, you have certain rights. However, if you are a minor, then your legal guardian can make inquiries for you.
