how long does it take to settle an estate

It depends on the size of the estate and the complexities encountered (e.g., are heirs contesting a will, number of creditors, etc.). Small estates that are eligible for Summary Administration or Disposition of Personal Property without Administration can take 3-6 months. Formal Administration for larger estates can take longer than 6 months to a year. If issues are encountered, it is not unheard of for settling of and estate to take longer than a year. It varies depending on Estate and location within the State. I have found it can take 12+ months even with minimal Estates.
