Medicaid elgibility and community spouse

In FL, to what extent is one spouse liable to pay for the other spouse's medical expenses (e.g., nursing home) when the other spouse's assets fall short and, what $ and personal or real property exemptions apply to the other spouse before he/she must make up the $ shortfall for the other spouse's medical expenses?

There is case law which states a spouse in not responsible for the medical bills of another spouse. However there are times when one spouse signs as a guarantor then the issue is different.
