Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Medicaid question

My brother is a vietnam veteran and is now in the hospital with both a brain tumor (cancer) and multiple sclerosis. He's 62, has a disability, and has no assets. He will have to go to a nursing home after his radiation treatments due to his incapacity to care for himself. He doesn't own a home and has no valuable but has a very small amount of cash that we recently transferred from his savings account to mine so that I can continue to pay his creditors. When he goes into the nursing home, he'll be covered by medicaid. How can I protect what little cash he has from Medicaid taking it all?

Re: Medicaid question

It depends on what was transfered and when. Generally, you cannot avoid paying the money for health care and have the government pay by giving your assets to relatives.
