Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida
who got his money ?
My uncle lived in NYS for awhile, where I heard I was the only one on his will. He moved to Florida, then we got into a fight, and I told him I didn't want his money. He died last year. I found his name twice on the NYS unclaimed funds site. Then I saw over 4 names on the Florida unclaimed fund site that could be me ?, but they have NO address, or middle inital on them to make me really think it's me, they only say ''alternet owner''.
I believe he died alone, no relatives are in Florida.
How do I find out what happend to his money ? Maybe it's still there for me ? or if it went to someone else (like relatives in Ireland that I don't know), I would like to contact them about the other unclaimed money in NYS.

Re: who got his money ?
You say your uncle died in Florida owning assets in Florida. I would begin with a search of court records in the county he died to determine if any probate matter has been filed. If he died without a will, under Florida statutes a surviving spouse, parents, siblings and linial decendants would inherit before you. As an alternative owner, you will probably need, at a minimum, a death certificate to claim this finds. Depending on how these accounts are titled a probate case may also need to be filed.

The various states may be holding the money. You should contact the appropriate state department to find out if they are in possession of your uncles funds & the procedure for you to make a claim for them. Good luck.
