mother passed away , father servives , all assets were in joint name . is probate cort nessacery

It depends. Were there any debts? Are there any children? However, usually jointly titled assets do not go through probate but that doesn't mean probate isn't necessary. It's possible but I would talk to an attorney to be sure.

It depends: Are there minor children? Are there stocks and bonds, pension plans etc. Those things require Letters of Administration.
