I am a paralegal, can I write a will for a friend who lives in another state.

Not unless you don't like the friend. The worse thing you could do for them is to try to do up a Will, make a mistake, and then their entire estate plan fails. As a lawyer I don't write up Wills to be used in other jurisdictions. Too much risk to both of us.

Best advice, have your friend find an estate planning attorney in the jurisdiction they live and go through them.
