Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Probate and estate filing

My fiance passed away almost 2 years ago and left no will. His family never came around to make claims on his things. I either donated or sold all of his belongings before I moved out. The family has now come around and wants to make claims on his belongings. Can they sue me for the value of his things?

Generally, they could try but you have the defense of abandonment and/or waiver.

If you wish to discuss this in detail, feel free to e-mail me your phone number and an appropriate time to call.

Only the Personal Representative of the Estate has authority to bring a claim. The long delay will work in your favor.
