Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

property and medical bills

If other people are on the warranty deed or own property along with a man who is supposed to live there until he dies, can said property be taken to pay medical bills that may be left after his death? The same question goes for a checking and saving account that is in his and anotoher's name, can these acccounts be taken?

The property cannot be taken as all the individual has is a life interest that dissappears upon his death. After his death, his interest is gone and the remainderman (the other party) has fee simple ownership.

Checking and savings accounts in joint names are a different matter. They can be garnished if otherwise allowable. Check with a local attorney to see if there are better ways to protect your assets.
