Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Settling a small estate in Florida

My father died in 2000. His entire estate consists of a $1000 CD in a Florida bank. He was the sole owner of this CD. Is there any way to get this money without a lengthy probate process?

Yes, there is. If there is no outstsanding debt, you can file for summary administration. Or, you can see whether you qualify to file for family administration. Either way, contact the courthouse in the jurisdiction where the decedent was a permanent resident and ask how you should proceed. Good luck.
