Nuncupative [ Verbal] death bed will

Facts: A good friend passed away,he left no will.

Q. Does what he stated verbally in front of several witnesses as to who gets what have any legal standing?

A. It depends. A nuncupative [verbal/oral] will is good to dispose of personal property {but not real estate}, if the testator knew he was dying and made his verbal will as he was in the process of dying, in front of witnesses who will testify or give affidavits of what he said.
