Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

My widowed mother wants to transfer the homestead to her son to avoid probate. She is in her 80's but in good health. Other than her giving up any control over the property what are the implications? There is no mortgage so would doc stamps be required?

She could lose her health care benefits-under medicaid transfer rules- her son could lose the property to divorce,lawsuits,tax problems,etc. She needs to do a comprehensive estate plan .
