no will what happens to the estate

My dad died i'm the only child.He was remarried with no other children.My step mother will not talk to me (we never gotten along).How do I find out if he had a will or life insurance policy? I know he had a 100k cd. What happens to that money. They own a home joint titeld. Will she get the house? if yes, when she dies will her children inherret the house. (That would'nt be fair.)Please help i don't know where to start. Thank you!

P.S. I called his bank they said legaly thy can not give me any info.

If she held it jointly, as survivor she gets the house and can do whatever she wants with it. As for a will, if it has been filed with the court in the county where he lived you can obtain a copy.

You can check with the local county courthouse where your dad resided to see if an administration has been open. If not, you can open it yourself as an interested person. You need to consult a local probate attorney about this. Good luck.
