Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

How to go about getting a will made up

I have heard that you can do your own will, I would like to know if that is better than going to a lawyer and if I go to a lawyer, I would like a ball park figure on how much it would cost to have a lawyer draw up my will. Thanks.

Alawyer is not required to prepare a will; a lawyer is recommended if the will is complex. Simple wills can be prepared using forms or sample wills from self-help books. State law governs wills so be sure to comply with state law. A simple will may cost $100-200, and increase in cost as complexity increases. To have a properly prepared will, one is advised to pay the lawyer to do it right.

I believe that although it is not necessary to have a lawyer draft your will, it is a very wise decision. An individual can draft his or her own will, however, if a mistake is made you may not have the opportunity to correct the error. Certainly, after death, the will can never be changed or amended.

Many attorneys will draft a simple will for a reasonable fee....often for around $100.00 - $150.00. The Florida Bar can recommend attorneys to you.
