Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

wills

My father is dying and lives in Florida. Legally will our stepmother or attorney have to notify us when the will is read? There are three of us biological children and her 3 children that are not my fathers. They are being very closed mouthed about anything to do with his financial affairs and while we visited they did not leave us alone with him.

Re: wills

In Florida the will is not "read." It is filed with the probate court if probate is opened and at that time it becomes a public document that anyone my view. If your father has no Will, then you would have a right to share in his probate estate. Florida law does not require a person to leave anything to his adult children and it is possible your father has a Will that excludes you. It is probable you will not receive any notice of probate unless you are a beneficiary of the estate.
