Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

I was told by my step-mother that she left me $10,000 in her will. Her neice confirmed this when she passed, but I have recieved nothing. It has been 1 1/2 yrs and I was told there was no will. Is a will registered with the state from where it was written or in a data base somewhere? What is to keep someone from hiding a legal will to keep all the estate?

Check with the court clerk in the county where the decedent resided to see if the will was filed .
