When writing your will, should your executor be someone other than someone that will be receiving something in the will?

Not necessarily. An executor or Personal Representative (Florida) should be a trusted, responsible, able person who will be available to administer the estate as intended. Often a spouse nominates the other spouse; a parent may name one or two of his/her children.

Often the Executor is a beneficiary, such as a spouse or child.
The better question is whether you trust that beneficiary to serve as Executor/Personal Representative. It is a responsible position.
