Legal Question in Workers Comp in Florida
injured at work
I am an auto mechanic, i work for an
independent repair shop. One day
one of my front teeh got knock out
by a bolt when i was replacing a
strut on a vehicle, i went to the
dentist and the damage was fixable
and was going to cost $1700 (i didnt
have insurance), by boss told me
than he will pay $500 and the rest i
will have to pay because he argued
than it was not his fault, it happen
because i was not careful, i did not
said anything because back then i did
not have a social security number or
a job permit, now i do have it and i
still work for the same shop, looking
for another job of course, but i would
like to know if there is something
that i can do to legally recover my
money. The accident happen on june
of 2006, thanks for your help.

If your employer carried workers'compensation insurance, it is not too late to file a claim for the money you spent. If the employer has no WC insurance, you are probably out of luck. You are also out of luck if you were considered an independant contractor, that is, paid by the job, not by the hour. If you want to discuss this further, call me.
