Legal Question in Workers Comp in Florida

Workman's comp

Getting bills/collection agencies' notices for medical treatment given for an on the job back injury that occurred Jan07. I gave my supervisor the bills and injury information so the company could submit Worker's Compensation paperwork. I wasn't out long enough to require compensation, which was just fine, however I no longer work for this company. Apparently they never paid the bills. My supervisor didn't give me any paperwork to do after I got back to work-and he was the person who had to relieve me when the injury manifested itself the day following the incident. Do I try to contact the company? We are no longer on good terms due to shorted/Very delayed paychecks, uncashable paychecks, etc. This company still owes me back pay as it is. What are my options? Thanks.

Re: Workman's comp

It sounds like your company may have had financial problems and didn't even have WC coverage. You can check that out on the internet at the website of the division of financial services, workers comp. databases, proof of coverage. If they had insurance for your date of accident, send the bills and an explanation to the insurance company. If no insurance, get yourself a lawyer who can handle both a wage and hour claim and a WC claim. Good luck.

Re: Workman's comp

I would contact a workers' compensation attorney in your area. The attorney will file a petition to get the bills paid and be paid attorney's fees by the comp carrier.

See attorney also for back pay owed. Attorney fees are collectable for this also.

Good luck.
