Re: French Family Laws
You have to bear in mind, that France applies a Civil Law System, with issues like domestic violence being labeled under the Penal Code regardless of whether both partners are bonded in marriage or not (in your case it's called "concubinage")
Such crimes are considered enough reason for separation if/when reported & usually accompanied by a medical report to file a case in the court of divorce (if married) which is a civil court as marriages in France are considered civil marriages (conducted in the Mairie) although you might choose on a later stage to opt for an additional religious marriage elsewhere..Either way, married or unmarried, this guy is held responsible for his actions under the penal code & will be transferred to the General Prosecution if you don't drop your charges against him!
Any such violence committed in a foreign jurisdiction is subject to the laws of that particular jurisdiction where it is reported but it would be highly recommended to keep any such records of that accident should he become a threat to you once again when you come back in France!!!
