How long does SS have to review a case or respond to the complainant
I have twin daughters, mentally challenged, that have collected SSI for approx. 9 yrs. They have always had the yearly reevals. We recently moved to Ga. and for the first few months things were fine. Then all of a sudden they change the girls' pay without an explanation. When I asked why, they said they had miscalculated. I asked them to explain and they won't. I finally filed a request for reconsideration and said I wanted formal conference in which they have to meet with me and explain everything to me. I did this July 17, 2001 and I have not received any response fromthem. In the meantime their pay has gone up and down, from what it once was back down to where they changed it in June. Everytime I call and ask a question they tell me someone is working on it and they can't answer any questions. Don't I have a right to know why the girls' pay keeps fluxuating so drastically? How long do they have before they have to tell me something and grant me the formal meeting I requested?

Unforuntatley, SSA does not have definite guidelines in which to process your reconsideration. My suggestion would be to find an attorney who might be able to give them a little more pressure or to contact your local congressional representative to provide the pressure
