Legal Question in Disability Law in Georgia

Cancer patient losing job

My husband works in car sales and recently has been diagnosed with cancer. He has had radiation and worked all thru it and now has loss of some of his leg and walks with cane. He has been at job almost a year and is selling cars , but has gotten behind in numbers. They told him on Fri due to his illness and slow car sales they will have to let him go. We need the insurance we get thru them. Is this illegal? Is there anything we can do?

More information is required to answer your question. You may want to contact a lawyer that specializes in plaintiffs labor and employment law. Depending on the size of the employer, it may fall under COBRA laws that require it to offer your husband the chance to purchase his health insurance for an extended period; however, if you can get him on insurance through your employer without any exclusion for a preexisting condition, that would probably be less expensive since COBRA is typically more expensive than the coverage offered to employees. It sounds like your husband is being involuntarily laid off from full time employment, so he should qualify for unemployment benefits.
