Legal Question in Banking Law in Georgia
Responsible for debt incurred by spouse
My spouse has an issue with running up credit card debt without being able to pay them down. I have on several occasions paid them only to have her open up new ones again. I have even enrolled in a Debt Management Plan with Credit Counciling Service and am in (and plan to remain) good standing with that process. We now have creditors calling our home on a regular basis for her outstanding balances. I do not want to pay them off again and would like to know what my responsibility for the debt that she has run up for is. I am not listed on any of the accounts and she is the sole cardholder. Can my credit be impacted by not bailing her out again?

Re: Responsible for debt incurred by spouse
You need more than legal advice.
Your credit is separate unless you have joint accounts.Your credit will only be affected if you can't pay your own accounts because you keep bailing her out.
