Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Georgia

bankruptcy

My ex-husband has apparently filed for bankruptcy and I received a letter/notice in my name. I do not understand what it means at all. He currently pays child support. When we got divorced in 2005, we both split our consumer credit counseling debts. I have since then paid mine off long ago. I wonder what any of this letter means and what he claims I owe. Please help.

Re: bankruptcy

As you state, it means he filed for Bankruptcy and listed you as a creditor. No one here knows anything about his case. You can go to the clerk's office to review the documents.

Re: bankruptcy

Without seeing the letter no one here can say for sure, but one letter you should get will be because he owes you a "domestic support obligation." As to whether your rights are affected or not as to child support, you should speak to a lawyer. (While child support is non-dischargable, a bankruptcy may affect when you receive it or your remedies if he misses payments).
