Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Georgia

Can bankruptcy be done across state lines?

I have to file for bankruptcy. I will not be living in Georgia when I do this. Can the proceedings be done either online or (in this case) from Tennessee? If so, is there a way for me to file for divorce at the same time? At least with the same attorney?

Bankruptcies are usually filed in the state and district where you have lived for the past 180 days, or a majority of those. So if you're here now, you could file now and move after. You would need to come back for a court hearing.

Divorce is again determined by residency. If you're still a Georgia resident you could file here. Some counties do that with no court appearance.

To find out more on either, call me at 404-768-3509. If you're in metro Atlanta we can probably assist you. My website www.glenashman.com has more information.
