Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Georgia

When I filed a chapter 7 I was a single mom barely making it. This is old debt from my first marriage. When I have the meeting of the creditors with the trustee, I will be married to a man that wants nothing to do with my old debt. This could cause marital problems before the first year of marriage. Will my new marital status change the results of a chapter 7?

As major a change as a marriage within 30 days of filing a case may have a significant effect, depending on information not in your post. In a worst case scenario, your case could be dismissed. In a best case scenario, you may be fine.

You SHOULD have discussed the possible marriage with your attorney before you filed, and surely he told you what to do and what not to do (and when to do it). Assuming you listened to and followed his advice you should be fine (and there would be no reason to ask here).

Hopefully you did not do the extremely foolish and dangerous step of filing without a lawyer. If you made that serious misstep, talk to a lawyer and hire him now and do NOT change your marital status until you discuss details with your lawyer.
