Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

Attorney Threatining to Sue

I did a blog post about an unethical marketing practice and the company who was discussed was not pleased.

I received a letter from their attorney threatening me with suits for libel unless I removed it attached to this letter was a draft complaint, that implied that the firm was going to sue me in my state court. The attorneys that signed it are not licensed in my state and they have not filed suit even though I did not meet their demands. You can see their letter and my responses if you email me back. Wont let me post a link here.

Is there a cause of action against these attorneys? Is it ethical for them to make threats that they have no intention of carrying out?

Re: Attorney Threatining to Sue

You can certainly be sued in state court where you live either by attorneys licensed in your state and/or other attorneys granted temporary permission to practice in your state.

There is no ethical or legal obligation to sue someone after threatening to do so.
