Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

Club Membership

We were members of a golf club for over 9 years. Less than a year ago, the club was merged into another club. When I resigned that club recently, they told me that we had to pay for three months to leave. They stated that this stipulation was in the by laws of the new club. They did inform us that there were new by laws but they did not send us copies. They posted the by-laws on line. We were completely unaware of this expectation. Can they put anything they want in a by-law? To be enforceable, should be by-laws have been sent to each member? What if we don't pay the three months they desire ($700).

Re: Club Membership

No doubt the merger included written agreements and documents, notices, disclosures, opt-outs, etc., and the existing club has by-laws, policies, etc. No one here has any of that. Practically speaking, if you knew about the new by-laws and knew you were governed by them, but did not bother to look at them (online, or anywhere else), it does not sound like a great excuse.
