Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia
how many d/b/a (s) allowed
Dear Sir/Madam,
How many d/b/a (s) a corporation can use?
Can it be several or just one?
For example: we have used one d/b/a for several years. Now we would like to choose another d/b/a; however our contracts were signed under our present d/b/a. So, we are not sure if we can choose a new d/b/a and start using it, and at the same time having the documents with the old d/b/a.
(Note - our present d/b/a was approved by local county court).
Please advice.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

Re: how many d/b/a (s) allowed
Fictitious names are registered with the Clerk of Superior Court of the county where the business is principally located. Without obtaining more information, it is difficult to give you a more complete answer, but there is no limit to the number of fictitious or trade names. The signatories to all previous contracts are in actuality the corporation itself, regardless of the dba. However there are complications when you use a fictitious name, including trademark issues, so I strongly advise you to contact a local attorney and discuss all issues further.
If you would like to discuss any issues further, please feel free to contact my office. My contact information is below. Thank you.
