Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

Difference Between NGO and Trust

I have an invention but before submitting the patent, I want to know whether it would be more beneficial to do so by setting up a TRUST or NGO, if I want to make sure the proceeds will be in a non profit organization. Is a TRUST a formal company and if so, how does it work?

Re: Difference Between NGO and Trust

Although NGOs can include non-profit corporations, the term is generally restricted to social, cultural, legal, and environmental advocacy groups having goals that are primarily noncommercial. A trust is not a separate company, but a contractual relationship whereby a trustee holds some property for the beneficiary.

Your question seems too important to be answered in this forum. Further, you would need advice from a patent lawyer, which is not my field. I can only advise you on the business end of the invention. As such, it may be beneficial to set up a company to hold the intellectual property rights to the patent.

If you would like to discuss any issues further, please feel free to contact my office. My contact information is below. Thank you.

I work closely with a friend of mine, Tim Dravis, at http://patentdev.com/ I think you should at least consult with us together before making a decision as to which direction in which to go about the ownership of your patent. We don't charge for initial consultations. Please feel free to give me a call.
