federal id # requested on renewal of business license

I have owned and operated my own business for almost 13 years. I just received my business license renewal application and noticed that for the first time the city is requesting my federal id number on the application. Is this any of their business? (I own a restaurant).

Your Federal Tax ID is not a secret. If you don't want to provide it, don't. However, they may or may not renew the license without a complete application.
