Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

I have an LLC and an IEN number which are both associated with my counseling buisness. I want to change the name of my buisness. Should I get a new LLC and IEN or can I transfer the name, with a DBA type arrangement? I live in Georgia.

Since you're in business, obviously you have a CPA and a lawyer on call. No successful business should operate without both. There are tax and legal implications to your question which must be considered, such as whether an LLC is even the proper form for your business, whether you need two seperate businesses, tax reporting, and so on. If you make these decisions with a lawyer and accountant you will overpay on taxes and likely mess up on the legal end of things. Do call your lawyer and CPA.

You have the option to change the legal name of the company or keeping the name and utilizing a trade name for the other name you want to use. Setting up a new LLC just to change the name probably does not make sense. Speak with a local business attorney to determine how best to accomplish the change as they will need additional information.
