Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

Non Compete Laws

I started my own company with some techs from a company that I did sales for a couple of years. When I resigned I told my customers I no longer work for this company and that they are great people, if you still want to do business with them great. I also let them know that I have started my own company. They wanted me to do their work immediately. Once my old company found this out they have been sending threatening letters about the information about these customers are property of the company and I am breaking some sort of law. I have not signed any non compete and have been quite ethical with the customers. My question is do they have any case if I did not sign a non compete and they choose to do business with me.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Clay

Re: Non Compete Laws

It sounds like your old company is claiming that the customer list is proprietary and/or a trade secret. If you signed an employment agreement, there may be some relevant language about customers. There is no law that says you cannot provide services for customers of your former employee.
